Young Enterprise
Our Year 6 children are taking part in a Young Enterprise scheme, an exciting opportunity for students to learn about entrepreneurship and business skills. Throughout the year, the students will work together to create, market, and sell their own products and money raising activities, gaining hands-on experience in how a business operates. This project helps them develop valuable skills like teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and financial awareness. Young Enterprise also builds confidence, as students learn to communicate their ideas, manage responsibilities, and make decisions as part of a group. By the end of the year, the students will not only understand the basics of business but also develop skills that will be useful throughout their education and in everyday life.
Children have started with a "£5 loan"; with this they could club their money together or work on their own to create an initial product to sell to increase their balance.
Project 1 - Bake Sale
The children's first project was to have a small bake sale at break time during school. They found some simple recipes and created a shopping list of items they needed. They started with simple rice-crispie tray bakes. In order to decide what to sell them for they researched prices of similar items online and calculated the cost of making their cakes. From this they decided on a price they thought was appropriate.
Running Total (inc. £5 per child starter money) £136.25
Project 2 - Christmas Fair
The children had a hugely successful Christmas Fair. They used their current balance of £136.85 to design their activities and stalls, buy a prize and the resources needed to run their stall. We had a really successful Raffle (where children went to local business's to ask for donations - list of business's seen below).
Other Stalls included:
Snowball throwing
Brussel Sprout throwing
Where's the Naughty Elf?
Name the Christmas Bear
Christmas Lucky Dip
Reindeer Food
Christmas sweets and treats
We also had great support from the PTA who also ran an extremely popular Santa's Grotto alongside the children's stalls.
The Fair was an overwhelming success with superb support from parents, families and the local community. So a huge thank you to all.
Running total (-£5 per child starting money): £521.85
